In QB POS 2013, can I do a sales order for another store from HQ?

Questions on the software? Call us at 800-609-0788!

When you open a sales order screen, and go to I want To, there is no option to change the store. So how can I do a sales order for Store 3, when I am at Headquarters in QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013 Multi-store?

There is a way to do it, it is just a bit convoluted..

First, open the Make a Sale screen. Add the customer and the items.

Then, go to I Want To, Other Tasks, Change Store, and select the store where you are doing the sales order for.

Once that change has been accepted, go back to the I Want To and choose Convert to Order, Sales Order, and save the Sales Order.

When you look in the Sales Order list, you will now see the Sales Order listed under the correct store.

Status Code: 3264

What is Status code: 3264?

When running a financial exchange, you see the following error:

Status Code: 3264. Status message: In order to complete this request,
the company data file has to be subscribed to QuickBooks Merchant Account
Services. QuickBooks error message: The company file is not enabled for
Merchant Services.

According to Intuits support site you are getting this error because you are sending Point of Sale credit card sales to QuickBooks using Remote Data Sharing (RDS).

To send merchant account sales through the financial exchange, you will have to choose a
transfer method other than RDS. Start with Solution 1.  If the issue persists, try Solution 2.

Solution 1: Uninstall RDS, Install QuickBooks on the Point of Sale server, and try your financial exchange again

Uninstall RDS from your Point of Sale server and QuickBooks computer

          Windows 7 and Vista

                a.  From the Point of Sale server: Close Point of Sale, click the Windows Start button, and then click Control Panel.
                b.  Click Programs and Features.
                c.  Select QuickBooks Point of Sale Remote Data Sharing (RDS) and click Uninstall.
                d.  When the uninstall is complete, close the Control Panel.
                e.  From your QuickBooks computer, follow the same steps to remove RDS there also.

          Windows XP

               a.  From the Point of Sale server: Close Point of Sale, click the Windows Start button and select Run.
               b.  In the Open field, enter control, and then click OK.
               c.  Double-click Add or remove programs.
               d.  Select QuickBooks Point of Sale Remote Data Sharing (RDS) and click Uninstall.
               e.  When the uninstall is complete, close the Control Panel.
               f.  From your QuickBooks computer, follow the same steps to remove RDS there also.

Solution 2: Reset integrated applications and make sure you have a password set for your QuickBooks Admin

                a.  In QuickBooks, choose Edit > Preferences.
                b.  Choose Integrated Applications and then click the Company Preferences.
                c.  For each instance you see, select RDS and QuickBooks Point of Sale and then click Remove. Click OK.
                d.  Choose Company > Set up Users and Passwords > Set up Users.
                e.  Select Admin and click Edit User.
                f.  Make sure a password is entered (and challenge question) and then click Next.
                g. Click Finish and then try your financial exchange again.

Why does the cd just say QuickBooks Point of Sale? I ordered Pro.

Questions on the software? Call us at 800-609-0788!

We get this question frequently, and I understand the confusion perfectly.

When you order QuickBooks Point of Sale, you receive the cd, with a license number and product code.

That cd contains the QuickBooks Point of Sale software, drivers, and other software that the program requires to operate. What is not explained on the cd, is that it will install any level of the QB POS software.

As the software installs, it will ask you for the license number and product code. The license number and product code tell the software what level to install, whether it is Basic, Pro, or Multi-store. The same cd can be used for all three installs, and in fact can install the software on any computer. It is not tied to the specific license number.

The licensing of the software is handled behind the scenes, through the Intuit servers. Once the software is installed, it will ask you to register it. If you are connected to the Internet, it will reach out to the Intuit servers, and use you license and product code to obtain the final code it needs, which is called a Validation Code. If for some reason it cannot connect to the Intuit servers, it will provide a phone number to call so that a registration specialist can provide you the validation code.

Error:  Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation

This error is showing up again but due to problems that were not identified in earlier articles we've posted.  The error could show up when launching QuickBooks Point of Sale or while working in the program causing the program to freeze.  This error could be caused by your computer system not meeting minimum requirements or due to a damaged Microsoft .NET Framework.  Here are steps you can take to resolve this.  FIRST check to make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements.  Click here for minimum system requirements for POS 10 and higher.  If your system meets or excedes the requirements for POS 10, it excedes the requirements for POS 9.0 and earlier.  I would also try closing and opening the POS program to see if that helps before going further.

GoPayment has made some improvements!

Questions on the software? Call us at 800-609-0788!

GoPayment, the mobile payment application from Intuit, has just released some new improvements in version 5.0.9.

There is a new Navigation Icon in the upper left. Tapping this icon allows you access to the main menu.

Wish you could account for checks as a payment method? That has been added in this version.

And a special shout to iPad users.

This version has a capability to link the software to a Cash Drawer and Bluetooth printer for working as a register in the field!

There have been a steady string of improvements coming out, including the capability to scan the card instead of swiping it. The blog site for GoPayment even has recommendations for stands to support the iPad as you use it as a register.

Keep watching this site, and we will keep letting you know as the new improvements are rolled out.

POS Error 180038 and 180037 - Cannot settle credit card transactions.

Questions on the software? Call us at 800-609-0788!

When attempting to settle credit card transactions in QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013, the following error is returned:

POS Error 180038 and/or 180037: Cannot settle credit card transactions. Receipts in progress or orphan receipts (improper shutdown) were found.
Why this is happening

The batch of credit cards may need to be forced closed or there is damage to the company data file.

How to fix it
  1. Make sure none of your workstations are creating a receipt and then close Point of Sale on the Server Workstation. Important: Do not reboot in the meantime.
  2. Open Point of Sale. Error 180037 will display as expected.
  3. Update the program to the most current release.
  4.  You may need to contact IMS Customer Service at 800-558-9558, to get assistance with having the batch force closed, and the POS debugged to reset the batch number.

QB POS 2013 r7 update is live!

Question on the software? Call us at 8020-609-0788!

Intuit has released update r-7 for the QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013 (v11) product.

Financial Exchange
  • Credit and debit batch times have been changed to 12:00 am local time to reduce interference with retail business operations.
    • This change is effective immediately for credit card transactions.
    • The change will also be made for debit card transactions within the next 4 business days. Until the change is completed for debit transactions, batching will continue to occur at 3:00 p.m. local time.
  • Issues relating to remote stores potentially displaying breakout incorrectly after financial exchange with QuickBooks have been fixed.
  • GoPayment transactions will now be grouped together in QuickBooks reconciliation after financial exchange.
  • Resolved an issue where in certain situations the Mechant Services Center was reporting duplicate transactions. Note that this was a display issue only, there were no actual duplicate transactions performed.

While this does help with reconciliation, it does mean that the Qb POS system needs to be left open for the exchange to occur.

What is RDS and how does it work with QuickBooks Point of Sale 2013?

Questions on the software? Call us at 800-609-0788!

RDS, or Remote Data Sharing, is a setup that can be configured when you have your main installation of QB POS on one computer, and QuickBooks is located on another computer on the same network.

The RDS Server is installed on the QuickBooks computer, and the RDS client is installed on the QB POS computer.

When it is setup correctly, the RDS application will allow QB POS to send the financial exchange data to the QuickBooks system. It opens QuickBooks just enough to fire the data into it, then closes it.

So what are the pro’s and con’s?

When POS and QuickBooks are installed on the same system, the configuration to send data is pretty painless. RDS adds a layer of additional complexity.

Even when both POS and QB are on the same system, you can still get issues sending the data from time to time. RDS complicates this as you are not sure where the issue lies. Is it network connectivity? Has QuickBooks installed an update?

In the past, the RDS application was pretty fierce. If it worked, it would work for a while, then stop. Or in some cases, it just never worked. Intuit has done a lot of behind the scenes work on RDS and it appears that it is pretty stable now.

If you would like to use RDS, Intuit support has an article that provides an installation guide, and the RDS server and client downloads.
