Windows 10 Homegroup is gone?

The April 2018 Windows 10 update removes the Homegroup from Windows, and is causing heartburn for some as it seems to disconnect their networks.

Here is something that may help.

Click on the search box next to the Start button and type Services.MSC

Click on the Services Gear icon.

In the list of Services select each of the following:

Function Discovery Provider Host

Function Discovery Resource Publications

SSDP Discovery

UPnp Device Host

As you select each one, set it to Start Automatically, Start it, then hit apply.

Many are able to see the network shares, and have their networks function after making these changes.

You will need to make these changes on each Windows 10 computer you have.

Token message in QB POS.

Token message in QB POS v 12 and 18.

Some users of QB POS v 12 and 18 will start seeing messages about a “Token”

This will occur on systems that use the Intuit Payment Service.

With the increased requirements for credit card processing, Intuit implemented a new protocol where the Admin must log out, and log back into the Payments account every six months. This needs to be done on any POS register that can process credit cards.

By logging out, then back in, this refreshes an internal token that is used for authorization by the credit card processing system.

If you should see a message about a “Token” and an apparent count down, click the green dollar sign emblem on the top of QB POS.

Log Out of the Payments account.

Then, log back in.

The token should be refreshed, and you will not receive the message again for several months.

QB POS v 18 update r-5 avaialble for manual download.

Intuit has released the r5 update to QB POS v 18.

General
A known issue was fixed which will prevent Point of Sale from freezing during login.

Sales, Purchasing and Items

Point of Sale will no longer cause a delay when choosing customers with large history on the "Make a Sale" screen as well as "Edit Customer" screen. The history section in the "Edit Customer" screen will now show the recent 100 transactions. For the entire transaction history, users can go to "Reports" or "Sales History" to get the full history of the customer.

Editing a sales order will no longer cause an issue with incorrect calculations on the available quantity of inventory.

Customers

Customer history will now show the most recent 100 transactions. More customer history can be found under the Reports menu.

POS v 12 and 18 patch error

This was released by Intuit this morning:

Error 1328 when updating Point of sale v18 and v12 to latest release (r4 and r14)

What you may be experiencing:

When updating to the latest release of QuickBooks Point of Sale V12 or V18 we receive Error 1328:
"Failed to install update. Microsoft Install Error: 1328, Error applying patch to file. C:\Config.Msu\PTFB53.tmp. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch."

What you can try now:

We have identified two workarounds that may help you resolve this issue.

1. Rename the file C:\Config.Msu\PTFB53.tmp then reinstall the patch

2 Perform clean reinstall on POS then update or apply the patch again. Click here to review the steps to preform a clean reinstall.

Current Status:

We are aware of this issue and are researching root cause and possible solutions.

A recent change in QuickBooks Point of Sale v18.

Intuit has released a new update for QB POS v 18 concerning users of the Intuit Payments.

New security requirements have been put in place that will require every workstation used to process credit cards through Intuit Payments, to log in every 6 months.

You may be confronted with a reminder screen from time to time.

POSreminder

At the top of the QB POS screen there is a new green “Sign out” button.

POSreminder2

Simply click the button and then Sign in again to clear the screens.

One note, we have seen some systems where there is a difficulty getting the client systems to log in.

This tends to occur on networks where the Windows users on the client are not administrators.

If you are having difficulty getting the client to connect to the merchant service, try logging into Windows on that system as an administrator.

This has been reported and work is being done concerning this behavior.

From Intuit:

We are actively working with Microsoft for a resolution.  For the latest updates, please subscribe to this article.   Our next scheduled update on this issue will be on  2/28/2018.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this.
