QuickBooks Enterprise 15 was released today. And there are some interesting new features.

 

Those of us that have used QuickBooks Enterprise in the past have always found that Row Shading, the color change between rows, made it easier to differentiate separate items and services on the forms. This has long been in place for the forms we are viewing, but when we printed, it was just a plain background.

In QuickBooks Enterprise 15, that has changed, and now the rows are shaded. This makes it much easier to find what you need, and see the individual items and services.

Intuit has announced the launch of the QuickBooks Pro, and Premier 2015, and the launch of the QuickBooks Enterprise 15 as of today.

While the programs have added new features, at this point the capabilities of receiving payments online through a link on the invoice, is not functional at this time. Regular credit card processing through the QuickBooks and GoPayment applications are working fine.

Intuit is aware of this limitation.

As with any new software release, we can expect to see some bumps in the road. When changing huge amounts of code in the background of a software, one can expect to have differences over prior versions.

There have been some changes in the new versions. These will be outlined in our blog entries to follow.

Software compatibility

QuickBooks is capable of integrating with hundreds of third-party applications. The following integrations are provided with QuickBooks; additional RAM will enhance the use of these features. See Intuit Marketplace for the most up-to-date list.

      • Office 2010 and Office 2013/365 (including Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013) both on 32 and 64 bit.  (Note:  Office 365 is only supported when it is locally installed, not the web version.)

      • Contact Synchronization with Microsoft Outlook requires Outlook 2013, 2010, or 2007.

Intuit will soon release the QuickBooks Pro 2015, QuickBooks Premier 2015, and QuickBooks Enterprise 2015 versions.

There have been some changes added to the programs.

They have added a new” Insights” tab on the home screen. While it has some possibilities, I was not extremely impressed. It seems like a cleaned up remake of the Company Snapshot feature.

There were some impressive changes. The Admin now has the capability of logging out the other users. They have simplified the capability of sending a Portable Company File. Estimates are now automatically closed when the Invoice is completed. And you can now do flagging of time and costs, reducing the chance of missing them.

The greatest changes have come with the Enterprise edition.

Some of these include the capability of blocking sales to customers with a past due balance, a new capability to not allow negative quantities. This is a good one that we have wanted for years. If you try to sell more than you have, it stops you!

There is a shortage report, for those using assemblies.

 

All of these features will be discussed in greater detail in later postings.

 

QuickBooks Users, Intuit is ending it’s affiliation with SalesForce.

Intuit, the makers of QuickBooks, Quicken, TurboTax, Enterprise, and QuickBooks Point of Sale, recently began contacting customers that are currently using the Intuit Salesforce integration. The integration between Salesforce CRM system and QuickBooks is being discontinued as of December 3, 2014.

Until the discontinuation date, there will not be an interruption of the service, and until that date, users of the Salesforce for QuickBooks Care Portal will not be charged according to Intuit.

If you are a current user, you can opt to discontinue the Salesforce CRM, or you can transfer to the Salesforce.com, but the Salesforce for QuickBooks service itself will be discontinued.

Those that have an existing subscription will be notified by email, and given specific steps or options they can follow, and will receive assistance from the Salsforce support staff should they choose to continue using Salesforce.com

In some cases, people opening the QuickBooks Pro, Premier, or Enterprise software are receiving the above error.

What’s happening?

This error typically occurs when 1 or more files for the program are damaged, or removed. This can occur when an anti-virus program mistakenly marks a file from the program as suspect.

Some users of Avast anti-virus began receiving this error after an update to the anti-virus mistakenly marked the DMUSERS.DLL file as suspect and quarantined the file.

If you are using Avast, Intuit recommends the following steps:

Exclude QuickBooks from the Live Monitoring Service:
note: your exact steps may differ depending on the version and level of Avast! anti-virus you have installed.

  1. Double click on the Avast! icon located in the system tray to launch the Avast! On-Access Scanner (next to the time in the lower right hand corner of the computer screen).
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click the Antivirus option on the left-hand side.
  4. Scroll down to find the Exclusions section.
  5. Add the following file paths:
    • C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Intuit\
    • C:\Program Files(x86)\Intuit\
    • If the company files are stored on the system’s hard drive (not a network drive) then add that directory as well.
  6. Click OK.

Restore files

  1. Double click on the Avast! icon located in the system tray to launch Avast.
  2. Click Scan(or Maintenance, depending on your version of Avast).
  3. Click Quarantine (Virus Chest).
  4. Right click the QuickBooks file that has been quarantined and select Restore and add to exclusions.
  5. Click Yes and then close the virus chest screen and Avast.

If you are using other anti-virus software, you will need to refer to their documentation to set them to ignore the QuickBooks software.

Even after configuring the anti-virus, you may still have issues and may need to perform a clean install to get the program operational.

Intuit has released the update r-6 for QuickBooks Enterprise 14.0

These are the changes they are reported to have made. Some of the changes are specific to versions, like accountant, or to Add On services like Advanced Inventory.

 

 

Add Multiple Items

  • Subitems will now sort under their parents in Find & Select windows on transactions.

Bank Feeds

  • Fixed an issue that was decreasing QuickBooks performance when working on the Transaction List with multiple Rules.
  • Customers using Classic mode for Bankfeeds will no longer receive an error when setting up a new online account.
  • Users with bill pay enabled will be able to use "Inquire about payments" and "Cancel Payments" from the Bank Feeds Center.
  • Users will be able to successfully Create & Send messages to their financial institution from the BankFeeds Center. When the FI does not support this operation, QuickBooks will display a message notifying the user.

Bin Location Tracking

  • Item quantity difference now updates correctly when user changes bin selection in Inventory adjustments.

Centers

  • Fixed an issue that was decreasing QuickBooks performance whenever the Vendor Center was launched and closed.
  • QuickBooks will now remember columns added to the Inventory Center, and not reset to default once closed.
  • Column width settings on all centers will be retained after opening and closing QuickBooks.
  • Enterprise Accountant users will now be able to see the Client Ready Payroll Reports on the Payroll Center.
  • The status in the Recent Payroll table of the Payroll Center will change to "To Send" after voiding a direct deposit paycheck.

Email

  • Fixed an issue that caused QuickBooks to close when emailing transactions or reports.

File Operations

  • Fixed an issue that caused an Unexpected Error while creating a new company file.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the conversion of a Quicken file to fail.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a C=102 error when upgrading a company file.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the file path to display as the company name for files converted from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks desktop.

Lists

  • Fixed an issue that caused an Unrecoverable Error when editing an account to change its type and then making it a subaccount.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a newly created account to not immediately display in the Chart of Accounts.
  • Fixed an issue that caused QuickBooks to close after opening the To Do List, if the list includes a To Do without a date.

Multi User

  • QuickBooks Messenger will no longer close automatically while in multi-user mode.

Other

  • Fixed an issue that caused QuickBooks to close while working with letter templates.

Payroll

  • Added a new warning message if one or more liability payments do not have a frequency set up.
  • QuickBooks will now warn payroll users when their Federal liability exceeds $100.000. According to IRS, the tax payment is due by the end of the next business day when this happens.
  • Fixed an issue where overtime hours on a paycheck that were pulled from a timesheet would not calculate at time and a half.
  • QuickBooks will now display a message to inform the user if sending paystubs to View My Paychecks was successful or not.

Payroll: E-File & Pay

  • Fixed an issue that caused the address to not auto fill correctly on the Colorado form DR 1094 form.

PDF

  • Sales form templates set to print an legal paper size will now be displayed correctly when emailing or saving as PDF.

Price Markup

  • When automatic cost change preference was set to yes, dialog asking about price update did not have cost change defaulted to YES. Now it does.

Printing

  • Fixed an issue that caused the check number to be retained even after selecting to reprint it on the Print Checks Confirmation window.

QuickBooks File Doctor

  • Internal QuickBooks File Doctor will now display results from the Network Diagnostics as well as the File Diagnostics.
  • QuickBooks File Doctor will now display the message "No network connectivity" when applicable for users running QuickBooks on Windows Vista.

QuickBooks Merchant Services

  • Fixed an issue that caused the wrong credit card information to appear on the Process Credit Card window after the customer is changed on the transaction prior to processing.

Reports

  • Fixed an issue that prevented Transaction Journals from being exported to Excel.

SDK

  • Fixed an issue that caused QuickBooks to close when duplicating a transaction after a menu item is added through the SDK.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the error “Could not find or create an instance of QuickBooks using InstanceFinder”, when connecting to QuickBooks while it is not running in UI.

Search

  • Users can now search for items by manually entering in a barcode.

Serial/Lot Tracking

  • Transaction List by Lot report now runs faster.

User Interface

  • Added a link to the PDF repair tool on all error messages related to a PDF failure.
  • Hotkeys will now work in the "Review paycheck" and "Preview paycheck" window.
  • Pressing ALT+S from the Payroll Info tab for an employee will now open the Sick/Vacation window.
  • When rows with hyperlink/amounts are selected within the Payroll Center, they are highlighted and readable. Hyperlinks are underlined as well.

 

 

What is the QuickBooks Spell Check Dictionary File in Pro, Premier, and Enterprise?

When you run the spell checker, and add words to it, Intuit saves that information as a part of the QuickBooks Dictionary file. This data is included when you make a backup.

But there are times that the file becomes clogged with incorrect spellings, and we want to start over. Or we may need to move that dictionary to a new copy of QuickBooks.

Your UserDictionary.tlx file is located in your program file:

  1. Windows X/P:  C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Intuit\Program Folder
  2. Windows 7:  C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Intuit\Program Folder

Where:

  1. User name is the name of the person logged in to Windows.
  2. Program Folder is the folder in which your current version of QuickBooks is installed.

To view the AppData folder, you will need to make sure you can see hidden files and folders on your computer.

To clear the dictionary and start over:

You can delete all added words from your UserDictionary.tlx file:

  1. Exit QuickBooks.
  2. Find the UserDictionary.tlx at the paths above.
  3. Rename the file to oldUserDictionary.tlx
  4. Start QuickBooks.

When you next run the Spell checker and click to add a word, QuickBooks will recreate the UserDictionary.tlx file.

To move your dictionary file to a new version:

After upgrading QuickBooks to a new version, your active UserDictionary.tlx file will be in a different location. This means that all of the words that you added are in the old location. To retrieve your old dictionary file:

  1. Find your old program folder using the addresses above.
  2. Copy your old UserDictionary.tlx file.
  3. Find your new program folder using the addresses above.
  4. Paste you old UserDictionary.tlx file into the new program folder.
